From Faith to Foreclosure

During the height of the real estate boom, the Prosperity Gospel was also on an upswing. Some preachers encouraged their congregations to “step out on faith” and buy the homes they wanted even if they couldn’t afford them. “Name It and Claim It,” they said.

Unfortunately, many Christians took that message to heart. The result? Their homes ended up in foreclosure. In the video, I dive into the relationship between the Prosperity Gospel and the home foreclosure fiasco.

Frequently Asked Questions About the Prosperity Gospel

What Is the Wealth and Prosperity Gospel?

The Wealth and Prosperity Gospel, often called the Prosperity Gospel, is a Christian theological belief that financial prosperity and physical well-being are God’s will for believers. It teaches that faith, positive speech, and tithing, often termed “seed sowing,” will increase the giver’s wealth and health. Proponents use various Bible verses to support these teachings, suggesting God rewards faithfulness with earthly blessings.

What’s the Difference Between Biblical vs Prosperity Gospel?

The Prosperity Gospel teaches that God rewards faith with material wealth and physical well-being, asserting that financial prosperity and good health are signs of God’s favor and blessings for believers, especially those who “sow seeds” through tithes and offerings.

On the other hand, the Biblical Gospel emphasizes salvation through Jesus Christ, spiritual growth, selflessness, and the eternal treasures of heaven rather than earthly wealth. While the Bible acknowledges God’s blessings, it does not guarantee wealth or health as rewards for faith.

What Churches Preach Prosperity Gospel?

Churches that preach the Prosperity Gospel can be found across various denominations and independent congregations, particularly in the Pentecostal and Charismatic movements. Some of the most prominent ministries and televangelists associated with the Prosperity Gospel include Joel Osteen’s Lakewood Church, Creflo Dollar’s World Changers Church International, and Kenneth Copeland Ministries.

These churches and ministries often emphasize financial blessings and physical health as signs of God’s favor, especially for those who pay tithes and offerings. However, it’s important to note that not all Pentecostal or Charismatic churches subscribe to the Prosperity Gospel teachings.
