Are You Cursed If You Don’t Tithe?

Are You Cursed If You Don't Tithe

God doesn’t curse Christians who don’t tithe. There are two main reasons for this. One, Christians were never under the tithe Law. Two, believers are freed from the curse of the Law through Christ and Grace.

The Error of Tithe Advocates

You must understand the tithe Law is one commandment of the Mosaic Law Covenant. This is an all-or-nothing Covenant, meaning ancient Israel had to follow all the commandments. Breaking any commandment, not just tithing, resulted in curses.

Here are a few examples of the 613 commandments ancient Israel had to follow:

* Gather for the reading of the Law every seventh year. (Deuteronomy 31:10-13)
* The blood of the sacrifices must be poured out on the altar of Yahweh for our atonement. (Deuteronomy 12:27)
* Do not eat leavened bread with the Passover Lamb. (Deuteronomy 16:3)
* Do not teach or prophesy falsely in the Name of Yahweh. (Deuteronomy 18:20)
* Do not tattoo yourself. (Leviticus 19:28)

Interestingly, pro-tithers don’t tell Christians they’ll be cursed if they break the above commandments.

Do you know why?

For one reason, some know the Mosaic Law doesn’t apply to New Testament Christians. Instead of teaching what’s biblical, they’d rather cherry-pick from the Law of Moses a commandment (tithing) that serves their agenda.

Please keep this in mind. The Law of Moses was always viewed as ONE Law. The Lord intended the WHOLE Law to be obeyed, not just tithing. Therefore, it’s a biblical error to promote tithing as a stand-alone commandment separate from the rest of the Mosaic Law.

Wait for a second. If you have fears about what will happen if you don’t tithe, check out an article I wrote on the topic. What you discover may shock you.

The Curse of the Mosaic Law

The Mosaic Law Covenant is a conditional contract (or agreement) made between the Lord and ancient Israel (verse). The Law of Moses only applies to them. Therefore, only the curses apply to the ancient Israelites. Christians can’t suffer the curses of a Law that NEVER applied to them.

Jesus Set You Free

The Bible teaches us that Jesus became a curse and redeemed believers from the curse of the Law (Galatians 3:13). Since tithing is part of the Law, believers have been set free from the practice of tithing. Additionally, it goes against Scripture for pro-tithers to place the curse of tithing on the backs of Christians.

New Testament Christians aren’t bound by the Law, which includes tithing. Christians live in liberty under the New Covenant (Galatians 5:1). Under the New Covenant, believers are set free through God’s Grace and Faith in Jesus Christ (Romans 6:14).

Recap

Are Christians who don’t tithe cursed? No. There is no biblical basis for teaching this doctrine. First, the Mosaic Law, which includes tithing, never applied to Christians. This was a conditional agreement made between the Lord and ancient Israel. Under the Old Covenant, only ancient Israelites were cursed for not paying tithes.

Finally, the Law, which includes tithing, was nailed to the cross (Colossians 2:14). Jesus’s death at Calvary set all believers free. In other words, the Hebrews who lived under the Law were set free. It also means New Testament Christians can’t be placed under Moses’ Law. Therefore, none of the curses of the Old Covenant pertain to Christians.
