The Bible does not chronicle every event of ancient Israel’s history. This is evident when it comes to the discussion of tithing. The tithe and Levitical priesthood officially ended in 70 AD with the destruction of the Second Temple.
However, the Bible does not address this event. Still, passages from the Old and New Testaments point to a new era after Christ in which tithing is no longer required (Jeremiah 31:31-34, 2 Corinthians 8-9). These scriptures recognize that when Jesus died on the cross and was resurrected, He brought about a new covenant in which the tithe law had no place.
ONE OF OUR readers raised this fact:
The Tithe was never stated by the Bible, Paul, or any Apostle as having been replaced by an alternative or abrogated.
In other words, tithing is still in effect because the Bible does not specifically state it ended or was replaced.
