Salvation Through Christ – Not Through Tithing

salvation through jesus christ

Tithing isn’t liked to salvation. Under the New Covenant, your salvation comes through the blood of Jesus Christ and God’s Grace (John 3:17, Ephesians 2: 8-9). No amount of work, such as tithing, helps believers earn, maintain, or lose salvation.

One of our viewers wants to know whether tithing is linked to salvation.

Some preachers are spreading a doctrine that you must pay tithes to maintain your salvation – or risk losing it!

Is this true?

No.

Old Testament Salvation

There are two concepts you must understand – tithing and salvation.

Tithing was a part of ancient Israel’s Old Covenant or Mosaic Law. It was a complex ceremonial system involving animal sacrifices, such as goats, bulls, oxen, and lambs. The blood of the animals was intended to cleanse ancient Israel of its sin.

For ancient Israel, sin meant breaking ANY of the 613 commandments of the Old Covenant (or Mosaic Law). The animal blood sacrifices were supposed to help ancient Israel atone for its sins, but it didn’t work.

They realized salvation wouldn’t come by the system of tithing. This is why a New Covenant was established.

Excuse me! In this informative post I wrote, discover more about how Jesus supported his ministry without relying on tithing.

New Testament Salvation

Under the New Covenant, your salvation comes through the blood of Jesus Christ and God’s Grace.

John 3:17

For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.

Luke 22: 20

In the same way, after the supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you.

Ephesians 2: 8-9

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast.

You can do nothing by your efforts, including so-called tithing, to earn, maintain or lose your salvation. Jesus Christ, and God have you covered.
